We had an enormous response from our student members with a whopping 484 entries to the IDI Graduate Awards 2017.
Whittling down from 484 to 92 was a slow and careful process. The decisions have been made!
The standard of entries, as we have come to expect, is very impressive as is the range of projects and original ideas.
All of this is wonderfully re-assuring and proof that a whole lot of new talented and exciting designers are emerging from our colleges. A really big thanks to the colleges and students, to all who entered from 20 colleges across the country north, south, east and west. It would not be a great national competition without your splendid work and range of interesting projects.
Because of the range and quality, judging was not a simple process. We had wonderful help and advice over a number of weeks in evaluating all the entries, including from our supporters and sponsors Boxclever (Chairperson of the Graduate Awards, Dominic Southgate of Boxclever) , Arup ( Peter Flynn, Director of Arup) and The CEUD ( James Hubbard of CEUD). In addition we had 10 other judges across the very many categories from Animation to Medical Devices, and from Architecture to Typography with Packaging,Textiles, Illustration, Brand and Consumer products along the way. We also had new categories in Design Research and Stage and Costume Design and a new Trans-disciplinary Design Category. Many thanks to all our volunteer judges, who were so impartial and who gave so freely of their time and expertise. A special thanks goes to Dominic Southgate of Boxclever who managed the entire process over a few months.
Prize-giving and exhibition
The exhibition will take place in IADT in Dún Laoghaire with the annual prize-giving event on the evening of 30th November.
This event has always been a great celebration of the IDI graduate work and we would really love all who participated to be part of this great night.
In addition to all the category winners, IDI will also present an award for the best Universal Design Project and the overall prize to the IDI Graduate Grand Prix Winner.
Supporters and Sponsors
We are very grateful to Arup who has sponsored the Arup Award for three years now, to CEUD who has been associated with this event as supporters and judges for more than six years, and to Boxclever who have designed and produced our winners trophies.
We are also particularly grateful to our hosts at IADT in agreeing to be a major part of the Graduate Awards and for hosting this event on 30th November and the graduate exhibition.
More details of the exhibition and will follow on Facebook and Twitter over the next week or so.
