IDI Graduate Design Awards 2020
In this uncertain time of Covid 19, it becomes even more important to promote graduate design. No physical degree shows or exhibitions mean that the Graduate Awards becomes even more important as a showcase for the best of graduate design in Ireland. The IDI Graduate Awards has gone from strength to strength over the last five years, doubling in size since 2016. Despite the challenges of 2020 the IDI is committed the celebrating the best of Irish design and, social distancing permitting, we hope to see you at the awards presentation in November.
IDI Graduate Design Awards Chair
The IDI Graduate Awards 2020 is now open for entry to student members on Awardsforce.
Due to the Covid19 situation, we are extending the deadline for entries until SEPTEMBER to allow graduates more time to prepare entries.
Judging of the graduate awards has always taken place online, 2020 will be no different, with judging taking place in September and October. Judging criteria have yet to be finalised but will take into account the move out of the studio environment. All graduates will have had a similar experience, though some such as furniture design, fashion or product design where there is a physical element to their project will be hardest hit.
TU Dublin had kindly agreed to host the awards and exhibition in 2020. This is provisionally booked for mid-November, however circumstances may change rapidly over the coming months. We will know more as the autumn approaches, but we understand the need to be flexible with our plans for both the awards presentation night and the ongoing exhibition.
New this year, because of the shutdown will be an online showcase of all the shortlisted entries, in parallel with the exhibition. This will also include curated pages for each of the shortlisted colleges, details and content to be worked out in the coming months. This will be updated with winners and commended awards as they happen. The IDI wants to work with graduates and colleges to ensure that the best graduate work in the country has another platform to showcase their work.
