Title: Terrace House, Dundalk
Designer: Martin McCormick MIDI
Company: Martin McCormick MIDI
COMMERCIAL OBJECTIVE
Working as developer, designer and occupier, my objective was to create a unique home whilst remaining cognisant of its potential resale value. As owner of the adjacent property also, the extension could not hinder potential development on the site corner.
DESIGN OBJECTIVE
My aim was to create a bright and spacious two bedroom home suitable for a contemporary lifestyle. With natural light being a priority, the rear extension was positioned to maximise the afternoon sunlight both internally and externally.
DESIGN THEME
My main infl uence was my experience of living in Australia, where I gained an appreciation of light, space, form, texture and colour. These elements have been carefully considered to produce an inspirational space to live, work and relax in.
TARGET AUDIENCE
The house was designed in line with my specifi c requirements as well as considering potential investors such as a young couple. For example, the solid balustrade in the study area can easily be built up to provide a third bedroom.
JURY COMMENTS
The jury found this to be a very good use of space. Utilising mirrors to refl ect at angles was a surprising addition and uses the space in a very nice way. Very well balanced colours all through the house.
