To develop world-class interpretation and visitor facilities to relieve the environmental pressure of visitor numbers at Ireland’s most famous natural heritage site and most popular visitor attraction.
DESIGN OBJECTIVE
To compensate visitors for bad weather; highlight regional and coastal wonders; the ocean’s role in controlling the Irish Climate; Moher’s rock strata as the book pages of geological history; and an important habitat for marine and birdlife.
DESIGN THEME
The climactic gannet’s flight in the ‘Ledge’ experience inspired by T.H. White’s book ‘The Sword in the Stone’ in which Merlin imparts environmental awareness by turning Arthur into an eagle, and then into a salmon.
TARGET AUDIENCE
General tourists and family groups of all ages, both overseas and domestic.
JURY COMMENTS
Quite a challenging exhibition and uniquely the designers have focused on the exhibition and not the design, the design is never in the forefront. Resulting in an excellent exhibition experience.
