WHO SHOULD ENTER:

All designers working in Ireland who are providing professional design services are eligible, whether working in a design consultancy or as part of an in-house design resource. An individual designer with limited resources is as likely to win as a designer in a large design studio.

Conceptual design work will not be accepted. All work entered must have been produced, implemented or available for sale between the period of 20th of August 2010 and the 28th of August 2011. Entries that have been submitted in previous IDI Design Awards will not be accepted.

IDI MEMBERSHIP

The Institute of Designers in Ireland welcomes members from a broad range of design disciplines. Active input from members is crucial to the success of the Institute. Indeed, in many ways, the IDI might be compared to a cooperative, with designers helping each other for mutual benefit.

The Institute embraces as wide a range of members as possible, while being careful to uphold the professional standards and codes of practice on which our reputation depends.

Aims of the Institute are to secure and maintain recognition for the design profession and to promote members and a greater understanding of the role of the design industry as the key to the future economic success of Ireland. We invite you to join the IDI and become part of a lively, creative and friendly professional community.

WHO CAN JOIN

Membership of the Institute of Designers is open to all students, graduates and professionals who can satisfy its entry requirements.

Currently there are over 300 members from a wide range of disciplines, including graphic design, product design, interior design, fashion and textile design as well as design management and those involved in design education.

All applicants for Membership of the Institute shall be citizens of Ireland or be resident in Ireland.

To ensure that Membership remains meaningful, the Institute lays down a Code of Professional Conduct, observance of which is a condition of Membership.

IDI MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

The Institute's membership is divided into eight sections reflecting a range of design disciplines. For organisational purposes new members are published in one specialist category only. This does not affect a member's practice in other specialist areas.

Exhibition & Interior Design/Architecture

Permanent and semi-permanent displays, museum design, window displays, trade exhibitions etc; commercial interior architecture and design for offices, retail and public buildings; domestic interior design.

Fashion & Textile Design

Fashion and clothing including garments, bags, footwear, millinery and other accessories; Textile Design including printed and woven textiles, carpets and other floor coverings, wallpapers, non-printed wall-coverings and laminates.

Product & Industrial Design

To include all aspects of furniture, craft and industrially manufactured products.

Theatre, Television & Stage Design

Production design including the creation and supervision of suitable environments and costuming for performances by artists and presenters in television, film and theatre. Television graphics and animated sequences.

Visual Communications

To include all aspects of corporate identity, printed literature, packaging design, photography, and illustration.

New Media

Web design, interactive CD-ROM design and multimedia.

Education

Design educators having academic design qualifications and practice, as well as validated design teaching experience.

Design Management

Design management consultants, managers of design consultancies and managers of design within a company environment.

membership fees

Membership subscriptions are valid for the calendar year in which membership is awarded. Annual subscriptions subsequently become due on 1st January of the following year.
