THE BEST OF YOUNG IRISH DESIGN EXHIBITION 2009
The Institute of Designers in Ireland are pleased to announce a graduate design exhibition to be held at the National Craft Gallery.
This opportunity is a juried multidisciplinary showcase of the very best 3rd level graduate design work in Ireland. The exhibition will also highlight and promote the Institute of Designers in Ireland Graduate Design Awards 2009. In partnership with the Crafts Council of Ireland the Best of Young Irish Design Exhibition 2009 will be shown in conjunction with their Emerging Makers 2009 exhibition.
IDI Graduate Design Awards 2009 Categories:
- Fashion and Textiles
- Interior Design and Interior Architecture
- New Media
- Product Design (industrial or craft based)
- Visual Communication
Graduate Design Awards 2009:
- IDI Individual category awards
- IDI Masters Award
- IDI Grand Prix Award (not including Masters)
Entry requirements:
- You must be a 2009 design graduate (3rd level or Postgraduate)
- If you are not already a member of the IDI you must include a cheque for €20 made payable to the IDI. This also entitles you to one year’s student membership.

Selection Procedure
This exhibition will promote high quality contemporary design thinking and craft excellence in Ireland.
The selection criteria are:
- Design value and innovation
- Aesthetic content and resolve
- Quality of Craftsmanship
In addition to three dimensional work, a number of large scale design illustration prints will be used to exhibit specific category’s of work in this exhibition. Visual Communication will be exhibited in this manner. Exhibition/interiors and product/industrial design category entries will have design illustrations included together with three dimensional models or as an alternative method of display. Designers in these categories are asked to provide print ready A2 images of their design illustrations on a dvd or cd-rom. All selected exhibitors will be notified in July. Further shipping and delivery instructions will be issued at that time.
Catalogue:
A catalogue will be produced to accompany this exhibition. Professional photographers will document selected design work for this purpose in September.
Timetable:
- Call for entries - April 2009
- Submission deadline - June 19th
- Jury of work - June 23rd
- Notification of selection - July 2009
- Delivery of work to Kilkenny - September 9-11th
- Catalogue Photography - September 15th – 19th
- Exhibition Opens - October 31st
- Exhibition Closes - January 31st 2010
- Return of work - February 2010
Entry Submission Instructions:
- Deadline: Friday June 19th 2009
- Complete the entry form - download here
- Provide a short description, including materials and dimensions for each piece of work entered (max: 50 words)
- You can enter no more than 5 pieces of work per category
- You can submit no more than 3 high quality digital images per piece of work entered
- Digital images must easily identify and describe each entry
- Enter either a power point presentation or jpeg images on 1 x cd-rom
- Clearly labelled the cd-rom highlighting your name and categories entered
- A2 print ready design illustration must be submitted for the following categories:
• Visual Communication 5 x A2 entries max
• Interior Design and Interior Architecture 5 x A2 entries max
