The Institute of Designers in Ireland (IDI) and DesignOpp are calling for support from employers to show their commitment to supporting diversity in design through a new sponsorship programme.
DesignOpp is an IDI initiative championing diversity for People of Colour (POC) in the Irish creative industry run by formidable team of designers, strategists and creators, dedicated to to uplift People of Colour (POC) in the design and wider creative industry in Ireland.
DesignOpp was launched in 2021 with a Zoom event featuring RTE's Emer O'Neill and other creatives of colour. This year they curated an online showcase for St. Patrick's Festival where 5 creatives of colour designed pieces portraying their experiences as POC in Ireland narrated by FeliSpeaks, as well as held their first official exhibition in the city of Dublin at Hen’s Teeth Studio.
DesignOpp's three pillars of education, community and opportunity deliver a multi-strand approach to ensure POC are given equal opportunity when seeking jobs, promotions or advancement. The first step was to develop a directory of POC in the industry, which was launched in May. We are inviting designers of colour to join on the DesignOpp website.
Their programme needs financial support in order to continue its work, and is looking for sponsorship from companies willing to demonstrate their commitment with a €250 annual donation. Donors will be supplied with a Supporting Diversity brand mark for use in employer branding activities, and logos will be visible throughout DesignOpp activities for a year. Donate.
We’re excited to support the next steps of their journey and welcome all support.
